Co-Packaging vs. Private Label

Co-packaging and private labels are two distinctly different services. Although It’s true that both services lead to a consumer-ready product/private label product. However, there are differences in terms of formulation proprietorship, production processes and pricing.

Co-packaging refers to a customer’s proprietary formulation, which Belton Foods produces under a predetermined agreement. The customer retains all rights to, and ownership of the proprietary formula. In fact, as part of the process, Belton Foods signs a non-disclosure agreement forbidding us to produce or share the customer’s formulation without prior approval.

Private labeling refers to Belton Foods manufacturing a product of its own formulation, and then packaging it under the customer’s private label. Belton Foods may develop a private label formula exclusively for a customer or adjust a current formula to suit the customers’ needs. Regardless, under a private label agreement, Belton Foods holds ownership on the formula, researches and acquires the ingredients. Then we produce the product for our client.
